Designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli on the Lines Series: What was your inspiration? "We decided to take the three basic ways of setting type as a reference (for us only), that are: flash left (for the long bench) Centered (for the middle one) and justified (for the table) so we played the usual interaction between design fields... We were not interested in flowery patterns, so the lines were natural for us. That was our inspiration..." Why is it important for you to give back? "For the last 25 years, RIT has been collecting archives of the best modernist graphic designers of the last century and they really use this material for teverying, so the students learn, about History, Theory and Criticism, directly from the archive material. Really a rare opportunity, that no other Institutions share. RIT is expanding their collecting policy to include some product design and our Archive will be the first to cover the whole field of Design. Worldwide, it is quite rare to find an Archive Center for Design Studies that is well organized, always open to the students and scholars. Products believed to be faulty workmanship of materials should be reported to Barlow Tyrie as soon as possible. If applicable, photographic proof of claim may be requested for examination or determination. Any faults found on inspection and covered by this warranty will be rectified by the replacement of the faulty part. If deemed necessary for repair, Barlow Tyrie will arrange for the product in question to be returned via their choice of transit and returned free of charge to the customer. No returns are accepted without authorization and will be refused. Barlow Tyrie?s liability in respect to goods supplied by it and not of its manufacture shall be limited to any guarantee or warranty given by the manufacturer of such goods. If your Tropitone frame fails structurally during normal usage, or if the finish peels, cracks, or blisters within fifteen years (5 years for commercial use), Tropitone will repair, refinish, or replace the frame (with same or similar product if discontinued) at no charge. Parts and labor are included for the first 3 years (1st year for commercial use.). Additionally the following 5, 3, and 1 year warranties apply: -For 5 years: Tropitone warrantees its vinyl straps for 5 years from the date of purchase.
