Geranium - Maverick Violet
The Geranium Maverick Violet , 'Pelargonium x hortorum', is a unique variety that offers beautiful violet flowers. The 'Maverick? series has full flower heads in a mixture of colors including violet. They have zoned foliage on multiple stemmed plants reverying up to 18 inches tall. Geraniums are a favorite bedding and container plant and are grown in almost every region of the country. These plants have succulent leaves and stems and they are commonly called garden geraniums or zonal geraniums. They are excellent in containers of all types from small pots to large tubs to window boxes and combine well with other plants such as petunias and ivies. Geraniums are one of your best choices for use in hanging baskets. Plant in ordinary well-drained soil. Over fertilization results in excessive foliage and few flowers. Hot Peppers - Jalapeno M
The Pepper Jalapeno M, 'Capsicum annuum' is popular for Tex-Mex dishes and for pickling. The dark green fruits can be left on the bush to mature to a fiery red color. The fruit grows to a length of three inches. To promote increased production, pick peppers regularly. Jalapeno M is the hot pepper every one knows. Jalapeno M has fruit that is slightly larger than Early Jalapeno and it is the most popular variety in Mexico. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter. Viburnum - Alleghany
Alleghany Viburnum, viburnum x rhytidophylloides 'Alleghany', is a dense, compact rounded shrub with abundant, yellow-white flowers in spring, and then followed by brilliant red fruit in fall, that matures to black in winter. It has deep green foliage during the season, and is tolerant of hot, dry locations. Alleghany is adaptable to full sun or partial shade. It is much hardier than the leatherleaf viburnum, and it grows well at both extremes of its hardiness range. It prefers a moist, well-drained soil, but extremely windy sites should be avoided. Chicago Lustre? Arrowwood Viburnum, viburnum dentatum 'Synnestvedt', is selected for its upright rounded, dense habit and glossy, deep green foliage that turns red-purple in fall. The creamy white flowers bloom in June and mature into clusters of globe-shaped fruit. The fruit are deep porcelain blue to blue-purple, maturing in August and providing food for the birds. Chicago Lustre is a medium-sized to large-sized ornamental shrub maturing at about 8-10 feet in height and width, although larger under optimum conditions. It has an upright oval growth habit in youth, becoming arching, spreading, and suckering with age. It has a medium growth rate and prefers full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soils. Erie Linden Viburnum, viburnum dilatatum 'Erie', displays white, flat-topped flowers that bloom in mid-May. Erie wears this blanket of creamy white, fuzzy flowers that nearly hides the medium green leaves, but then produces small red fruits that become coral colored after a frost. The fruits ripen in mid-August and persist into winter. This compact rounded plant is disease resistant. Northern Burgundy? Arrowwood Viburnum, viburnum dentatum 'Morton', is an upright, rounded, multi-stemmed shrub that displays creamy white flowers. The branching is upright and spreading, eventually arching over at the tips. It blooms in late June above the glossy, dark green foliage. Northern Burgundy has a spectacular fall color display with clusters of blue-black fruit hanging among the burgundy foliage. Its fruits attract birds. The fall color development is highly dependent on the individual plant; some plants turn yellow; some plants turn red to reddish purple. Northern Burgundy is very easy to grow and requires full sun to partial shade with soil that is from dry to fairly wet. It is easily transplanted and can grow 10-12 feet in height and width.
