The dark green foliage sits at the bottom on the tall daisy-like flowers and turns to mahogany in the fall. ?Indian Summer? in an AAS winner, and one can see why. ?Indian Summers? need to be grown in full sun in somewhat moist soil conditions in a well-drained area. It is great in borders, for cut flowers or for naturalized areas. Rudbeckia attracts butterflies, provides food for birds in the winter and is mildew-resistant. Yarrow - Coronation Gold
The Yarrow, ?Coronation Gold? , Achillea ageratifolia, is an upright golden-yellow flowered Yarrow that blooms from June through September, providing excellent color throughout the summer months. With fern-like aromatic, silvery to gray-green foliage, it is considered to be one of the best yarrows in any landscape. The foliage has a somewhat strong, spicy aroma, which persists when used in dried arrangements. The flower heads are 3-4? wide, with a spread of 18-24? and a height of 42?. ?Coronation Gold? has good texture and form and looks great in mass plantings and cottage gardens. This Yarrow does well in average garden soils, but prefers lean, dry to medium wet, well-drained soil.
