Ladys Mantle - Thriller The Lady's Mantle Thriller, 'Alchemilla mollis 'Thriller', has billowing heads of soft yellow-green star-shaped flowers that are highly prized as a long lasting cut flower. The Lady's Mantle has a place in every garden. After a rain, attractive foliage holds droplets of water which glisten in the sun. The flowers are star-shaped, 1/8 inch across, and held high above the foliage. They bloom in mid summer for 6 to 10 weeks. . The Thriller prefers full sun except in areas that have very hot summer days. In those areas, light shade is recommended. Place the Lady's Mantle in moist, well drained soils with plenty of organic material. Plant in the spring, 2 weeks before average last frost date. or late summer /early fall 2 months before first frost. Larkspur - Rose The Larkspur Rose, 'Consolida ambigua', has tall spires of rose colored flowers. It is considered one of the best for cut and dried flower arrangements. The 1/4 to 1/2 inch rose colored flowers are densely packed on tall stems. The Rose Larkspur blooms in mid spring to early summer. The Larkspur prefer a cool location in full sun. They like moist, rich, well drained soil that is slightly alkaline. Plant in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Lupine - Russell Mix The Lupine Russell Blend, 'Lupinus 'Russell Hybrids', has tall flower spikes with a large range of colors that makes Lupine when planted in groups a dramatic sight. The scents of the blossoms is like honey and it is a North America native flower. It is grown as an annual in southern states. The flowers are multiple 1/2 inch wide blossoms on spikes. They come in colors of white, yellow, pink, orange, red, salmon, lavender, blue, purple, and bicolors. Lupines bloom for 2 to 4 weeks in late spring. The Russel Blend prefers full sun and relatively cool conditions so do not plant in a hot spot. They prefer well drained and slightly acidic soil. Plant in the spring after average last frost date or in late summer in warmer climates. Mexican Sunflower - Torch The Mexican Sunflower Torch, 'Tithonia rotundifolia', is unabashedly brilliant orange and as hot and fiery as the August sunshine. The Torch is a genuine heat lover and sets the dog days of summer ablaze with sizzling orange daisies . The fiery orange daisy flowers have golden centers and are 3 inches wide. They flower strongest in hot weather, starting in mid summer and go strong until first frost. Mexican Sunflowers prefer full sun and they will grow in almost any soil that is well drained. Morning Glory - Flying Saucer The Morning Glory Flying Saucer, 'Tpomoea tricolor', is a sister of 'Heavenly Blue'. The Flying Saucer displays a blue star that has a crystal white background with radiating stripes of sky blue. Flying Saucer flowers are 5 inches across and they exhibit a throat that is tinted with soft lemon yellow. Flying Saucers bloom from summer until first frost and will bloom more abundantly during cool weather. The flowers open in the morning and close in the evening. Flying Saucer Morning Glory prefers full sun and average ,sandy, well drained soil. Water them frequently so they do not dry out.
