Coleus - Saturn
The Coleus Saturn, 'Coleus hybrid', has burgundy red foliage with bright lime lines down the center and scalloped edges. These new, bigger, sun loving varieties have revolutionized contanier gardening. The brilliant colors explode in sunny locations. Coleus plants are durable and easy to grow. The coleus plants are a tender perennials. Frost will cause them to die immediately. Coleus plants are so colorful that many people keep them and use them as a house plant. These plants will do best in temperatures above 55 degrees. Flower buds should be pinched off as soon as they develop. If a coleus plant is allowed to seed, it has completed its life cycle and will die. Coleus must have good soil drainage. Poorly drained soils and excessive watering will damage coleus. Plants suffering from "wet feet" will be stunted, leaves will turn a muddy brown, and leaf margins will be scorched. Ajuga - Chocolate Chip
The Ajuga ?Chocolate Chip?, Ajuga x 'Chocolate Chip', is a useful ground cover with short spikes of blue flowers. This Ajuga has unusually narrow foliage of dark green, overlaid with chocolate-brown, forming a very low clump. It is most noted for its dwarf habit and its chocolate foliage. The flowers appear in spring and are 4? in height with a plant width of 12-18?. It is not as invasive as most other Ajuga and best-planted 6-9? apart for a quick cover. Ajuga ?Chocolate Chips? will do best in a shaded area but will adapt to morning sun. It prefers moist soil with a good drainage but will tolerate moderately dry areas. Avoid soggy conditions.
