Prairie Gold Aspen
The Prairie Gold Quaking Aspen, 'Populus tremuloides ?Prairie Gold?, is a fast-growing tree that grows in everything from moist sandy soil to shallow rocky soils and clay. It has attractive cream-colored bark, beautiful silvery catkins in early spring, and lustrous dark green leaves that flutter in the slightest breeze, finally turning yellow in fall. This selection was discovered growing near a northeast Nebraska creek by the late, dedicated plants man, Allen Wilke, where it had survived and thrived for years. ?Prairie Gold? has performed well in the landscape and seems to thrive in the heat and high humidity of eastern Nebraska. This selection does not seem to be affected by the host of diseases that usually plague this species. Serbian Spruce
The Serbian Spruce, 'Picea omorika', Serbian Spruce forms a narrow, pyramidal silhouette with graceful arching branches. The Shantung Maple, 'Acer trucatum', is an outstanding small tree. It has glossy, dark green star shaped foliage that remains in good condition throughout the season. The Tatarian Maple, Acer tataricum', is quite similar to Amur Maple and the two species readily hybridize when grown together. Tatarian Maple grows slightly larger and is naturally more tree like in growth habit. The Tatarian Maples are slightly larger and usually develop a good red coloration when maturing. The Texas Red Oak, 'Quercus buckleyi' is also known as Spanish Oak, Spotted Oak, Red Oak, and Rock Oak. This medium sized tree may achieve a height of 30 feet or more and an equal spread. The Texas Red Oak develops a rather typical shape and form for the species, with a dense rounded canopy. The Texas red oak may also be found as a multi-trunked specimen in the wild. Dawn Redwood
The Dawn Redwood tree, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, is a deciduous conifer, with soft needle-like leaves that look like evergreens, but are bright green in the spring and brilliant orange/red in the fall. The needles are shed in the cold season of winter. Dawn Redwood trees are a very ornamental and interesting large tree, one of the few deciduous conifers in the world. It is feathery pyramidal in form with a straight, fluted trunk. It grows very fast to 40? and can grow to 70?. The bark is red- brown, fissured and exfoliating in long strips.
