The Tree Lilac is also called a Japanese tree lilac or Ivory Silk lilac. This small deciduous tree has recently attracted the interest of urban foresters as a small tree for planting under power lines. The leaves are similar to the common lilac shrub, dark green and oppositely attached to a shiny brown, stout stem. The Japanese tree lilac is very hardy and able to withstand winter temperatures as low as 30 degrees below zero. The Ivory Silk Tree Lilac is useful as a specimen or a street tree, as well as in a group, screen, or windbreak. It flowers more heavily than other lilac species. The White Oak tree, Quercus alba, is a great majestic long-lived tree that will last for generations. It is an excellent wildlife source of food mass in the form of acorns. This deciduous shade tree has moderate water requirements and has a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils. Does best on deep, moist, well-drained, acid soils. This tree grows at a moderate pace. The White Oak is pyramidal in youth and then develops broad crown with age. The dense foliage is bluish-green, to reddish-brown in fall. The White Oak is the tree from which the phrase "The Mighty Oak" was coined. It is an excellent specimen tree needing plenty of room to mature properly. Advantages of the White Oak are that they are easily transplanted when young and they have a high resistance to ice breakage and oak wilt. The Zumi Crabapple tree, Malus x Zumi 'Calocarpa', is valued for its profuse, spring bloom of fragrant, white flowers and for its glossy, small, bright red crabapples which mature in the fall and often persist into December. The flower buds are pink, foliage is green, disease resistance is excellent. In the fall, a long lasting display of small red fruit is offered. The Husky Gold is a great container plant with juicy, sweet, mild flavored tomatoes. Husky Gold is rare. It is a dwarf intermediate which means it will continue to produce right up to frost. Husky Gold has beautiful gold color tomatoes, high yields, compact plant, and disease resistance which make this plant a great choice. The golden deep oblate fruits weigh in at about 5 to 7 oz. Tomatoes are generally started inside. They may also be seeded outside after the last average frost date. In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.
